Mika plant trees with Dutch kids and Her Royal Highness Princess Maxima

posted Mar 15, 2012, 4:20 AM by Mika Vanhanen

On Wednesday, March 21th2012 the 56rd National Tree Festival will be organised in The Netherlands by Dutch National Tree Foundation. Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima will attend this Jubilee as Guest of Honour.  Mr Mika Vanhanen, the founder of the ENO Programme was also invited.

The Foundation was founded in 1957 by the former Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature-Management and Fisheries, as a response to the request of the United Nations, to all Member States of the United Nations to strive for an annual “World Festival of Trees”. This was suggested due to the enormous worldwide deforestation in the mid-fifties, causing erosion and resulting in desert-like situations in various already fragile ecosystems around the world.

The Dutch National Tree Foundation aims to address children and their parents, in a positive educational and enthusiastic way, informing them about the value of trees, their functions, their positive impact on people and the climate as well as their need for protection. Every year more than 115 000 of children plant over 200 000 trees and shrubs in the Netherlands.  During the last 55 years the Dutch youth, has planted over 11 million trees and shrubs in more than 350 municipalities.

ENO Programme looks forward to co-operation with the foundation and invites Dutch schools and children to join ENO’s 100 Million Trees Campaign.
